2025 TOURNAMENT SUMMARY

  • There were 83 total registrants in this event, with ladies accounting for 26 of these.  The number of female competitors was up greatly compared to last year and we hope that you keep coming back.

  • This year, we had 8 brackets (compared to 4 last year) and 53 different teams comprising these brackets.

  • Out of the 53 teams noted above, there were 14 teams also competing in mixed brackets.  Overall, roughly 80% of all of our competitors competed in 2 different brackets/divisions which led to logistical challenges in scheduling to avoid conflicts.

  • Of these 53 teams, 12 were lady's teams, also a notable increase from the 51st annual tournament in 2024.

  • It took 94 matches to complete our tournament.

  • And... THE VOLUNTEERS.... WOW!!  Although I will go back and count accurately, there were at least 27 different people, from our Saint Augustine POP Community, who were involved with food preparation and arrangements, signage, beach court preparation and maintenance, water supplies, photography, registration, bracket table management, etc.

And.... there were also a few other interesting and unique occurrences in this event:

One of our competitors was "ambushed" by a motorized bicycle as he hustled to corral a lob behind the beach baseline.  (Hope you're doing well Billy Byrd)

We had an awkward fall resulting in a fractured wrist..My oldest son said it happened because at my age, my coordination is severely waning.

We were also "treated" to one of the most rapidly developing and viciously aggressive storms that I have ever seen (including hurricanes) since I have lived in Saint Augustine.  Tents flying everywhere, water spouts rising from the ocean, and guard stations being decimated.

But... in the end.. WE FINISHED.... and.. WE GOT BACK TO THE BEACH!
